Taking a moment to step away from modern furniture, to spot something troubling, it appears that the New York City townhouse that served as the exterior of Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment for several seasons of “Sex and the City” has been sold for - get this, $9.85 million.  Yes, that’s correct, you read $9.85 million dollars, U.S. currency.  Cold hard cash, y’all.

The home on Perry Street in New York’s West Village went for $200,000 more than its $9.65 million asking price.  It is the second time in six months the property has changed hands, having sold for $9 million in November 2011.  That’s not a bad deal.  I’d like to make $850,000 in six months.  Who says the real estate market is depressed?  Not that savy owner.

The identities of both buyer and seller are unknown at the moment; corporations are listed on both ends of the transaction.

For his or her nearly $10 million, what does the buyer get?  The buyer gets 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, an eat-in kitchen and a sun room all packed into to approximately 4,100 square feet, spread over four floors and a basement.  Pleae note, there is also a back yard.  That must have been what pushed it over the $9 million mark.  Plus, don’t forget, you get to have lots of random tourists walk by your abode all the time taking pictures, remembering their favorite SATC moments, I mean who wouldn’t want that right?  That’s worth well over $10 million, if you ask me.  I mean well over $10 dollars.  My favorite part, the lied about the apartment’s real location, always saying it was on the Upper East Side.  Who wouldn’t want to pay $9.85 million for an apartment in a location that Carrie was embarassed about?  Sign me up.  Just give me the $9.85 million first.

Kanye is the Man

Kanye West is known for many things.  From his hip, catchy music, to his many awards and award show moments (Taylor Swift anyone?) to dating Kim Kardashian, a favorite of the ModSpotter.  But what he should be known most for is impeccable taste, which can be seen through his Hollywood Hills abode.  Kanye’s ultra modern style and appreciation for designer furniture is THE prominent factor that makes his $4 million luxury mansion a rare find.  I knew I liked him.  Regardless of what he may yell during live performances, this guy has style.  From Italian furniture by Edra, B&B Italia and Capellini to Vitra’s one of a kind pieces and quirky touches of fun filled interiors, Kanye establishes himself as aficionado of all things modern, and all things beautiful.

Here are some examples:

I don’t know what I love more - - The Jetson’s picture, that’s my boy, Elroy, or the Knoll Saarinen side table.  This is a one of a kind home, owned by a one of a kind talent.  He can take himself home to Chicago, anytime, but hopefully, when he does, he brings his keen style sense with him to the Windy City.  We could sure use some.  And be sure to bring Kim along.  We could sure use some.

Watch the NFL Draft in Style

convertible couch bunk beds

So, you are having some friends over to watch the NFL draft’s first round tonight, and you want everyone to be comfortable right?  First, if you are reading this, then you are too old to have anyone over to watch the draft.  Second, let me repeat, if you are reading this, then you are too old to have anyone over to watch the draft.  Third, if you are having people over to watch the draft, you need to re-evaluate your blog readings.  Fourth, if you are looking to get some serious use out of your sofa or desk, then this is the piece for you.  Ranging from creative to kitsch, funky to functional, here are some transforming furniture designs that save space and add some interactivity to your ordinary single-function interior furniture.

convertible funky sofa desk

For those of us without the budget to buy enough space for a full guest bedroom, it is awfully useful to be able to turn your office into a guest bedroom when the time calls for it.  These transforming table-to-bed designs by BonBon are nice easy-to-move two-in-one furniture objects.

A variation on the desk/bed combination, these sliding units make it possible to have a bit more storage space and to hide your fold-up bed a bit better.  The moving shelf area goes under the desk at night when the bed folds down and shifts in front of the bed when it is folded up.

Perhaps the best known BonBon creation is Doc, the comfy couch that flips up into a pair of bunk beds complete with a ladder, guard rail and pleasantly enclosed lower level that doubles as a sofa or a second bed.

Use any of these to enjoy tonight’s draft.  Go Bears!  Thanks http://dornob.com/convertible-furniture-cool-couch-desk-bed-designs/?ref=search for the ideas/photos.  Well done.

Yabba Dabba DOOOOO!

Everyone please take a moment to remember the terrific Dick Clark.  I was too young to remember American Bandstand, or its Bandstand forerunner, but I do remember Dick Clark.  Every New Years’ Eve, I would tune in to watch him count down the famous ball drop.

There was something supremely relaxing about listening to him.  Even after he suffered a stroke a few years ago, he kept right on going.

Sure, I could marvel at the fact that the guy never aged.  I’m sure the same will be true of his heir apparent, Ryan Seacrest.  It doesn’t bother me.

I have to admit, I actually thought Dick Clark was older than 82.  Something about never aging, made me think that his chronological age was actually higher than it was.

So why am I showing you this Flingstones’ inspired house, and talking about Dick Clark, you might ask?  Well, this is Dick Clark’s house.

Built in Malibu, the home looks like a cave turned residence. Perfect for a couple, this home consists of one bedroom and two bathrooms nestled on a massive 23 acre lot, with views of the ocean and mountains, the ultimate combination in California. The home was previously owned by none other than Dick Clark and his wife.  They listed it for only $3.5 million and I’m not sure if they ever sold it.

I keep waiting for Pebbles to come running out into one of the photographs.

Best of luck, Dick.  You will be missed.

Kardashian Furniture - Enough Said

Well, they have gone and done it now.  As if there were not enough Kardashian merchandise available in the world, we now have home furnishings added to the Kardashian marketing empire.

In the photo, the trio appears nude with their bodies draped by their Sears line of plush blankets.  Who doesn’t remember getting naked and draping themselves in blankets with their siblings?  Right?

Kourtney, who is currently pregnant with her second child, took to her blog to gush over the new collection which reflects the personal styles of each of her sisters.
BEDWEB_WEB

“It’s always been a dream of mine to have my own home line,” the reality star wrote. “I’m completely obsessed with interior design and the way my home look and feels is so important to me. Home is definitely where the heart is, so it’s really important that my house reflects my personality! We tried to put our own personal touches into this line and we hope you love it as much as we do!”

Home decor is the Kardashians’ fourth collaboration with Sears this year. In January, they debuted a denim collection, and in March, they launched a lingerie and swimwear line.

I don’t even know what else to say.  Did one of these sisters get a degree in furniture design?  Do you even care?  Are you even reading this or just looking at the picture?

Forget Tupac, Here’s a Guy to Watch

While Tupac’s resurrection as a hologram at Coachella may have the Twittersphere tweeting, I want you to pay attention to Pharrel.  Pharrel Williams is absolutely alive.  He is not computer generated.  He is a rapper.  He is an fashion maven.  He is all things style.  He is now a furniture designer.  Forget celebrity inspired perfumes or jewelry.  Those aren’t even remotely designed by the celebrities.  The celebrities just walk in at the last minute, get paid a big wad of cash and put their names on some smelly perfume.  Not Pharrel.  Pharrel decided to make his own chair. “The Perspective” is a joint production between Pharell and Domeau & Pérès. The chair will be available in few colours and it shows the relations between a man and a woman. Sign me up.  In Pharrel we trust.  Thanks http://artstyleonline.com/elements-of-designing/perspective-chair designed-by-rapper-pharrell-williams/ for the knowledge

Elegant Simplicity

Elegant Spring Pierced Furniture by Esedra

I wanted to show you an elegant and cool bench.  Just a bench.  Nothing more.  No bizarre colors.  No market gimmicks.  Just a cool bench.  Esedra, an Italian company, designed this beautifully simple piece.  The designers used simple sheets of metal. The collection contains armchairs, tables and poufs that are either fretworked and chromed or lacquered, or upholstered in 1 or 2 colors. Each set comes in four versions: upholstered with leather in different colors, perforated with an enticing design or in the steel version for an outside garden or patio. These pieces of furniture look really fresh and creative.  How refreshing.  Could you imagine putting this in your living room, right near the big bay windows and just sitting down on it and enjoying the silence around you?  I can’t because I have two kids that are constantly screaming or fighting, but you can.  Live the life I dream of.  Thanks http://www.home-reviews.com/tag/cool-looking-furniture for the inspiration.

Watch the Cubs Win in this Chair

In honor of baseball’s opening weekend (I refuse to admit that the bosses of baseball sold out and in actuality started it in Japan like three weeks ago), I am presenting this piece of modern furniture inspired by the shape of a baseball.  If you look at it, you can see, it looks like a baseball was cut open and placed inside of it, is the most unhappy model you will ever see.  Clearly, she is a Cubs fan, who has not yet realized that this season and the jamokes currently playing for the Cubs (other than possibly Starlin Castro) are meaningless.  It is all about the future.  None of these players (other than possibly Castro) will be around when the Cubs win playoff game number 1 under new savior, Theo Epstein.  So this little lady needs to buck up and realize that it’s not about today.  It’s about the future.   And she should do so while lounging in this chair.  Seriously, this was the best model they could find to sell this awesome chair?  But I digress.  Buy it and plan to sit in it when you watch the Cubs win the World Series, sometime in 2015.

I will admit the third picture down looks a lot like I did watching Kerry Wood blow games 1 and 2 this past weekend.  Seriously?  He’s a Cub for life?  What has he ever done?  The guy is so over-rated, it’s not even funny.  Seriously, what has he done?

Thanks http://www.houseinteriorhome.com/furniture/unique-chair-like-baseball-ball-make-you-feel-comfort/ for the heads up.

Welcome back American Pie

What’s old is new again, or is it vice versa?

american pie.jpg (575669 bytes)

This is just the table to sit at while helping yourself to a nice piece of apple pie.  This classic 50’s chrome dinette set is just the thing.  It is back in production, using vintage plans pulled from the archives. Available for you to enjoy in the new millennium. Put on your poodle skirt and pull up a chair!  Thanks to the BeanBag Store for reminding us that you can grow up, but that doesn’t mean you have to lose your sense of nostalgia.  See http://www.thebeanbagstore.com/takeretroampie.htm for more details.

Are you looking at me or my furniture?

Black and pink, is the new pink.  Look at this.

This piece is called the “Drawer’s Chest” by designer, Stanislav Katz. It is constructed of lacquered MDF and measures 130 cm x 100 cm x 50 cm. Stanislav not only creates fun colors in this piece, but also shapes “Drawer’s Chest” into a curvy creation that brings attention to the dresser due to is unconventional geometrical shape.

Sure, it looks like the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland’s dresser, but she did get to have people heads cut off, so that’s not too bad.  Besides, the next time, visitors come to your house, you can show them your bedroom and they will not forget it.  I like the lines but it is really the color that makes this a ModSpotter original.  Thanks http://www.ffimagazine.com/category/storage/ for bringing this modern spectacle to our attention.
